As part of the Flybuys design team, I identified a repetitive production task that was consuming valuable design time: creating and exporting multiple roundel variants for campaigns, eDMs and partner promotions.
To streamline the workflow, I designed and developed a custom Figma plugin that automates roundel generation, naming conventions and export setup.
The Challenge
Designers regularly needed to create multiple roundels with different values, manually update text, rename assets and configure export settings. While each task was relatively simple, the process became time-consuming when repeated across multiple campaigns. Updating the roundel libraries for rebranding was especially time consuming.
The Solution
Using Cursor and AI-assisted development, I built the Roundel Generator, a Figma plugin that allows designers to:
Generate multiple roundels from a value range
Automatically populate roundel text values
Apply consistent naming conventions
Convert text to outlines when required
Automatically configure PNG, SVG and PDF export presets
The tool was designed to be intuitive for designers, requiring minimal setup and no development knowledge.
Outcome
The plugin reduced a repetitive production task from several minutes to a matter of seconds while improving consistency across campaign assets.
By automating manual setup and export preparation, designers can spend less time on production work and more time focusing on creative problem-solving and campaign execution.
The estimated total annual savings is 48hrs (based on current roundel libraries and 4x revisions a year).
